Job Search Guide - Job Search Tips for New Graduates

Join in the battle, but make sure you're equipped with the right weapons for the big fight. Looking for jobs is a job in itself. It takes time, dedication and, often, money. For example, travelling up and down the country or state for interviews which may not amount to anything, are often necessary evils. However, this article is going to focus on the most economical ways graduates can look for a job.
1.Visualize where you would like to work. Transport and relocating for USA jobs can be extremely expensive and draining. Make sure you know where you want to work - research the area if it's a new place, or cross out jobs that are located in placed you definitely won't want to work. This should cut back on costs spent on travelling for interviews and graduate forums. Graduate fairs also tend to be local so if you find an advert for one that is far away then don't think about splashing out the cash to get there. Wait and research whether or not there's an equivalent fair in your nearest city. Use job listing sites that allow you to filter by area.
2.Make use of your career center. The career center is free and should be either on or near campus. You should make good use of it because the people there are trained and employed to help kick start your career. They make connections with companies locally, nationally and internationally and so have a plethora of suggestions. Therefore, go more than once! You're recommended to go every 6-8 weeks to and discuss your career prospects with your careers counselor, build up a rapport and log your progress - you may find you change your mind on what you want to do.
3.Research. Before going in for an interview or before applying, research the company at its fullest. Get a good grasp of their aims so that you know for yourself whether or not you want to work for them, and to show them that you've done your homework and can add a personal touch to your reasons for applying. An HR agent will be able to tell if you've picked their company out of a hat and are just applying wherever there's an advert. When researching, it's important to review the company's policy, executive biographies, and the 'About Us' section.
4.Don't wait around for a company to contact you. You could save yourself some time and money by cold calling a company you're really interested in, rather than waiting for an advert to pop up. If you have a job in mind at a certain company, but their website doesn't reveal any information about internships or graduate schemes, simply call them up and ask for the internship coordinator. Be polite and professional - the receptionist may not give you any joy but it won't hurt to try. This may be cheaper and easier than physically going into the company building itself and asking for careers information (even though it may make a good and enthusiastic impression, travelling to companies just for an impromptu visit may get pricey).
5.Basically, there's no need to stick your neck out when looking for jobs. Yes, sacrifices and compromises need to be made and you should be enthusiastic with applications for USA jobs, but don't set yourself up for a fall. Careful planning, both financially and mentally, can help cut down unnecessary costs. When good opportunities arise, prioritize where you want to put your money. If there is a once in a life time careers fair which hosts a bunch of companies you're interested in, make sure it'd really be worth it. Will the fair simply be handing out information you can get on their website? Or will they be hosting spot-interviews and can actually lead towards a job? Prioritize.

Job Search Guide - Unique Places To Find Offerings Jobs

Job Search Guide

There are certain places where everyone checks that is looking for a job. They go pick up a newspaper and look in the classified section. They go online and look on Craigslist, and other online locations that list job opportunities. They also go on to LinkedIn and put all of their job qualifications, experience, and educational degrees online. These are all pretty wise if you are looking for a job, but that is where everyone else is going as well. There are many other unique places to find job offerings.
Perhaps you should be looking at bulletin boards at places like Starbucks, or at snack shops which are inside high-rise office buildings or small lunchtime restaurants in business industrial areas. It seems there are always job offerings available. Another interesting idea is to talk to someone that does mobile detailing in office parks, and ask them if they know if anyone is hiring, you'd be surprised how much information they know about the local business districts.
You might also go and talk to a church during non-Sunday services, and ask the pastor if they have any information on potential jobs. Tell them of your situation, and your need to find work, and they may just refer you to someone who owns a business who attends the church who is looking for help right now. You'd be surprised how well that works. Community college bulletin boards also have job listings, and even if you aren't a young person, you still might answer that call. Perhaps you might even be more suited because you have a little experience under your belt.
If you are looking for work in the automotive sector, you might talk to the guy who delivers and sells tools in his van to all the automotive repair shops. They are definitely in the know, and they know when someone leaves or when a position opens up. What I'm saying to you is this; you don't have to do everything the old way, you have to use your creativity and open your mind to other potential opportunities, things that other people may not be looking for - sometimes using unique strategies when searching for a job will yield the best results.
Further, if you are a creative person, and a better detective while looking for a job, then I'd say you probably deserve it more than the next person. After all, you are using your mind, and that's what an employer really needs. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

**Fantastic Tips For Preparing For A Job Interview Easily**

From time to time we could all use a little help with updating our interview techniques, whether you're a young buck fresh from school or a hardened veteran from the school of hard knocks in the article below I will try to help you prepare for your interview.
I will share with you some simple tips that will help you on your way to getting the job you want.

Problems you may have experienced?

On the morning of your interview you find that your killer job interview outfit no longer fits and also realise at the same time that perhaps it's time to hit the gym again!
You've arrived on time at the right building, but what you didn't realise was there were 20 different departments within that building and all on different floors.
You could be a nervous rambler, you know exactly how to sell yourself and the skills you have, yet when crunch time comes, your nerves take over and before you know it, you're halfway out the door smiling back whilst saying thank you and goodbye.
Let's get started on being ready!
1. Find out the location of the building you need to attend and if you need to be at a particular part of that building, find out exactly which part of the building your interview is being held at.
2. Plan and time your route to the place you need to be at. I would suggest a couple of days before your actual interview day. The last thing you want to do is turn up late because you arrived at the place on time but it took you a further hour trying to find the department.

Dressing for impressing!

We all have something smart in our wardrobe and if we don't we can often beg and borrow. First impressions last so you want to make a good one by dressing accordingly. By which I mean use your common sense and dress appropriately for your interview.
Just be sure you can attend your interview looking smart, clean and well presented. Which for women generally means hair brushed and maybe some make up (don't plaster it on though - it's a job interview not a night out on the town) just some subtle make up to show you take pride in your appearance will suffice. For men clean-shaven is always the best way to go, and for everyone clean, fresh breath is an absolute must.
You don't need to worry about selling yourself and your skills from the second you walk in the room as you have the interview so your C.V. has covered a lot of the ground work for you already. Your interviewers are already interested in hiring you and now it is time to show them why you are an exact fit for the job advertised. You need to elaborate on your skill sets now that make you the best person for the job.

Bright eyed and bushy-tailed.

Getting a good nights rest before the interview can be tricky as anxious nerves may kick in, scenarios of how the next day may pan out play out like a stuck CD in your head. Meanwhile times ticking away and just as you start to feel exhausted enough to sleep, your alarm goes off, this is never a good start to interview day.
Remember your potential employer will probably not appreciate the 'I've had a sleepless night but drank lots of coffee and energy drinks' look, nor will they appreciate you sounding like your heart is only half in it and you would rather actually have been home in bed. A good nights rest before an interview is a must!
So to help you relax and make you feel that you are actually prepared and are ready for the interview, preparation is the key.
Here is a few tricks I have personally tried and tested that have helped me.
1. Research the job for which you're applying for. This will help your confidence when answering questions about the position at your interview.
2. Practice in front of a mirror either by yourself or with a good friend. The laughs you create will certainly relax your mind, body and soul.
3. A long soak in a hot bath/shower will help you relax. Then just slouch in your favourite pyjamas with a nice cup of tea or hot chocolate afterwards.
All these tips and tricks are methods that I have used and have helped me be successful in gaining employment in my chosen field. I feel sure that they will complement the tools your local recruitment agency have also given you and hopefully will help you gain employment in your chosen field.

**Tips To Get The Right Part Time Job**

In the current economic scenario, many people are looking for an additional income. If you are also looking for a part-time job for earning an additional income, you may find the following tips useful.
- You should first keep your communication channels open because once you make it known to potential employers that you are interested in part-time jobs, they may be contacting you. Even if you are not available at home, you should be available over your cell phones. Some employers may feel it necessary to conduct telephonic interviews and so, only if your communication channels are open, they will be able to carry out such processes.
- There are several job sites for part-time jobs. These sites specifically focus only on these types of jobs and you can use such sites for looking for jobs in the location of your choice. Most of these sites allow you to send in online applications. Employers like JC Penney, Walmart, etc. have many part-time jobs and you can submit your applications online for these jobs.
- While applying for such jobs, you should furnish details like your name and address, educational qualifications, additional skills, if any, and of course, your experience. These details will help the employers to make a decision. Some employers may like to know the remuneration you have been getting in your previous employment. Most importantly, you should clearly specify in your application your availability for the job because you are applying for a part-time job. You should give considerable thought to this aspect and give the right details. You should not mislead the employers because every employer may have their own plans to deploy their employees appropriately. Man-power is precious and employers may not like to waste this precious resource. If you specifically mention the hours of the day you will be available, employers may make their decision accordingly.
- Sometimes, you may stumble upon such an opportunity when you go for shopping because some companies keep signs outside their stores that they need employees. Even if you do not see any such signs, you can inquire with the managers of large and reputed stores if they need any employees.
- You can have a look at the ads in the local newspapers and magazines regularly because almost all small companies who need part-time employees use these columns for filling vacancies.
- A good way is to choose reputed stores or companies and send in your applications. If you visit the stores or companies in person and talk with the concerned people, you may get good part-time opportunities. But, when you go in person, you should present yourself neatly. It is better you have references of a few good people. You should have the names and contact details of these references so that these employers can do a check about your track-records and credentials before appointing you.
- You can take the help of employment offices or career counselors to get part-time jobs. Some of them offer free services also. Otherwise, you can do a good research and choose agencies that do not charge exorbitantly.
- You should maintain a record of the applications you have sent. By doing appropriate follow-ups, you can know the status of your applications. But, you should never over-do your follow-ups because prospective employers may think that you are pestering them.
- Many employers fill up such vacancies internally or through references and so, you should expand your contacts. If you develop a good rapport with everyone including strangers, you can use your network to land in a good part-time job. But, you should be sincere in developing such a relationship. You should not do this with selfish motives. People may come to know of your selfish attitude very soon.
You can use these tips appropriately and succeed in getting the right type of part-time job that may suit your needs perfectly.

How to Properly Qualify a Decent Job

If you have been a Hiring Manager for any length of time then you understand the task of hiring a new employee is a complicated process. You also understand that sometimes the difficult part of hiring a new employee doesn't have anything to do with the actual applicant and candidate interaction.
Sometimes the difficulty is due to your own team or company not being in alignment with the requirements of the position, and the results can be disastrous. Here is a checklist I have created which should help eliminate many of these problems.

DETAILS OF THE POSITION

Does everyone agree to the title of the position?
Is there flexibility to the hours or location? Said differently, for the right candidate would you be willing to be flexible on home based vs. in-house, working out of another office, working different hours than the rest of the team to accommodate family needs, etc.?
Have you confirmed with your team what type of candidate will fit your needs best such as contract, perm, or a temp-to-perm candidate? There are pros and cons for all choices, so be sure you consider them!
Is everyone in agreement with the salary or hourly rate? Have you confirmed this compensation with finance and your senior management as well?
Is there a clear start date? Clear end date if this is a contract or temporary position?
Is there anything that would put this start date at risk? This is typically the area where I see most organizations struggle. There should always be open discussion as to what (not if - but what) will put a start date at risk. Clients delaying projects is a reality. Funding being withdrawn is a reality. Always ask the question and know up front what may cause a start date to slip or be cancelled.

INTERNAL PROCESSES

Have you looked internally to fill this position? Have you ever filled this position internally in the past? Would senior leadership, finance, or HR require you to look internally before seeking someone outside of the company?
Is there any chance of a hiring freeze or some other financial freeze or delay which would prohibit you from hiring an external resource?

JOB SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND PERSONALITY

Does a Job Description exist for this position? If not, do you have the appropriate support to build one? If you aren't sure where to start don't worry; in my clinical recruitment world I write many job descriptions for my clients and go into more details in a future article titled "How to write an Effective Job Description".
Have you asked your department what the most important job qualifications are? Many times a huge laundry list of job requirements will be handed to you by your team, however perhaps only a handful of those requirements are critical. Be sure to have your team prioritize their requirements as well as tell you which ones are nice to have but not mandatory.
What personality type is your team looking for? This goes well beyond the job description but is critically important. I see fully qualified candidates rejected daily because they were too bubbly or not bubbly enough, too chatty or not chatty enough, etc.
How should the individual work best? Do you want someone who needs to be managed as part of a team, or works independently without checking in? Do you want a natural leader or a follower? Don't assume you know what your team is looking for - ask!
What type of company background does your team want the candidate to come from? Individuals from smaller companies have different mindsets than those from larger companies. Professionals learn different things depending on their past corporate (or non-corporate) experiences, so find out what your team is looking for.

What type of career goals do you want your new team member to have?

Remember that not only do you want to be clear on the hard requirements for the position such as the individual's skills, experiences and education, but the soft requirements too, like personality, work style, corporate background, and career ambitions. Ask your team, make note, and you will be well on your way to adding the right new team member to your working family.
